I am a language dork. I have taken Spanish in grade school, high school, and into some college courses. I have lived and done service work south of the border and beyond. I became proficient enough to carry meaningful conversations a couple years ago and I haven't looked back. I practice with every Spanish speaker I can. I can't get enough of it. I want to learn more. It is amazing how many more people I can communicate with now. Spanish has opened my eyes to English and all it's difficulties.
I am currently working in a German restaurant. I have taken up this opportunity to now work German in as my third language. I am a still a novice but I get regular practice every day. My eyes are beginning to open even more. I am taking Rossetta stone and picking the minds of my German patrons. I know German isn't a pretty language (fun to speak though) and I would never have chose to learn it on my own time. How could I not seize the opportunity to learn is beyond me. Especially because I have an itch i just can't seem to fully scratch.
While working as a Bartender I have come across deaf people and I berated myself for not being able to communicate. I asked questions and tried to learn the little I could with the little time I was exposed. Spanish people can learn to speak English and visa verse, but I can fathom the deaf community being forced to... SPEAK. With that, I knew it was my onus to learn to sign. I wan't to communicate with as many people as I can. I'm trying to find the right back scratcher :)
I will learn ASL!!!!!
